Vanua Levu feels a long way from the more developed main Fijian island of Viti Levu. But take the trouble of getting there and you will be rewarded with some stunning diving. The best diving is to be found in the south of the island around Savusavu and the biggest draw is the Namena Marine Reserve which lies about 40 minutes by speedboat offshore. This is one of few protected marine areas in Fiji and the diving is world-class. There are several excellent sites here ranging from pinnacles covered in pristine soft corals in explosive colours, to reef walls teeming with big fish. Closer to shore there are a large number of local sites with healthy coral and excellent marine life. Do we need to say more?

The best time to visit Fiji is between the months of April and November when the weather is dry and the temperature ranges between 26°C to 30°C. Outside this period it can get quite hot and unpleasantly humid.

First fly into Nadi International Airport (Airport Code NAN). It can be reached from Los Angeles, Auckland, Christchurch, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Honolulu, Vancouver and Narita in Japan. Then take a domestic flight with Fiji Airways (www.fijiairways.com) to Vanua Levu (Airport CODE VAV).
