This island with a population of just over a 1000 inhabitants is a place most of you probably never heard of. It is located north of Palermo in the northern part of Sicily. The Marine National Park Reserve was brought into being in 1987. One striking sight is the amount of fish found here and the vast meadow of poseidonia oceanica, a truly effective seaweed, nicknamed the “lungs of the Mediterranean” (because it oxygenates the water) to be found up to a depth of 40m. This place really still is a little secret. So sstttt don't tell anyone.

From May to October with the vast majority of tourists arriving in July and August. So start booking early if you plan to go in peak summer!

First fly to the International Airport of Palermo (Airport code = PMO). Then take either the catamaran ferry (1 hour and 30 minutes) with Ustica Lines www.usticalines.it or the hydrofoil (1 hour and 30 minutes) with Siremar www.siremar.it.

You could also take the regular ferry but this will take much longer (about 3 hours).
