Isla de la Plata is Ecuador's other Galapagos for wildlife to match the Galapagos, but without the crowds and high prices! It is a small island and is part of Parque Nacional Machalilla. It can be reached by boat from the city of Puerto López. On the island, there is a large diversity of animal species. For example, several species of booby, including the Blue-footed booby, Red-footed booby, and the Nazca booby. Another species found here is the South American sea lion. Underwater, you'll discover mixed rock bottoms with massive coral reef patches and sea turtles, sea lions, lobsters, octopus, scorpion fish, trumpet fish, flute fish, king angelfish, jacks, sting rays, guitar rays, mantas, white-tipped sharks, hammerhead sharks, and a great variety of colourful reef fish.

The months of December to May are sunny and hot with frequent short rainstorms. From June to November it is cooler and more overcast but in these months humpback whales arrive off the coast of Ecuador to play.
So it's up to you what to choose.
The nearest airport to Puerto López with regular service is in Manta (Airport Code MEC). But you can also fly into Guayaquil (Airport Code GYE) or Quito (Airport Code UIO). There are domestic flights to Puerto López with Tame (www.tame.com.ec) or Aerogal (www.aerogal.com.ec). Once arrived in Manta you can take a bus or a taxi directly to Puerto López .
