Dangriga, formerly known as Stann Creek Town, is the largest town in Southern Belize and is regarded as the cultural capital of the region. Dangriga has a funky vibe about it despite sharing a similar ramshackle exterior with Belize City. But it is generally a well located place to explore both the central and the Southern cayes for some excellent scuba diving.

Dangriga is still quite underdeveloped when it comes to tourism, but that´s largely its appeal. So if you want to visit a place that might be slightly rough around the edges but full of friendly warm natives you´ll definitely want to visit and dive this southern region of Belize!

The climate in the entire southern region is more tropical than northern Belize. As with the entire country, there is a wet and dry season during the year separated by a cool transitional period. In the south, the rainy season begins in the middle of May and arrives in the north in mid June. It continues through to November but experiences a drier period in August. The true dry season is from February to April.

The most recommended way to get to Dangriga is by flying. First fly into Belize International Airport of Belize City (Airport Code BZE). Then take a local flight to Dangriga with Tropic Air (www.tropicair.com) or Maya Island Air (www.mayaislandair.com).

The flight time is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
