If you are visiting Costa Rica you will not want to skip the Catalina Islands & Bat Islands. Scuba divers from all over the world come to Costa Rica to scuba dive these islands. The islands of Catalina and Bat are located in the gulf of Papagayo which offers some of the Pacific Ocean’s most interesting marine diversity. The plankton-rich waters support numerous species from very big to very small. The Catalina Islands aka "the Cats" are, without a doubt, one of the most sought-after scuba dive locations in Costa Rica. These islands are located about 30 km from famous Playas del Coco and are considered a scuba diver’s paradise. But these dive sites are for the more advanced diver used to drift and deep dives, due to surge, stronger currents and rougher surface conditions. So pack your bags and go encounter ‘la vida pura’.

You can scuba dive this region all year long but for dry and sunny weather you would better be off visiting during the dry season is from December to April. The rainy also called Green season is from May to November and during this the rain makes the air very humid as it can rain all day and very hard accompanied with thunder and lightning storms. Maybe just make sure you skip coming during the rainiest months of September and October as it is not uncommon for it to rain for two or three weeks straight.

And don’t forget: between September and March Humpback whales, Pilot whales, Orcas and Whale sharks visit the area when visibility is at its best.

Playa del Coco is one of the best connected  vacation spots in Costa Rica with direct flights from Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia (Airport Code LIR). Once arrived in Liberia International Airport (www.liberiacostaricaairport.net) you are only 20 minutes away from Playa del Coco.
